Oils and Fats

Rapeseed Oil
Refined rapeseed contains omegas 3, 6 and 9 and essential fatty acids. It is good for heart, brain health and joint mobility. It's also a rich natural source of vitamin E. High in mono unsaturated fats with less than half the cholesterol raising, saturated fats of olive oil. It can be heated to deep-frying temperature without its antioxidants, character, colour and flavour spoiling. Some of the very best rapeseed oils are produced in the UK and are GM free.

Soyabean Oil
For decades, food manufacturers have selected soybean oil for its versatility and competitive pricing. The neutral flavor and well-balanced fatty acid profile of soybean oil make it a desirable ingredient for a variety of applications from baked goods to salad dressings. A good all-round low cost frying oil derived from genetically modified soya beans.

Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil is the non-volatile oil expressed from sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seeds. As a frying oil, sunflower oil behaves as a typical vegetable triglyceride. Sunflower oil is high in the essential vitamin E and low in saturated fat. Restaurants and food manufacturers are becoming aware of the health benefits of sunflower oil. The oil can be used in conditions with extremely high cooking temperatures. It may also help food stay fresher and healthier for longer periods of time.

Corn Oil
Corn oil (Maize oil) is oil extracted from the germ of corn (maize). Its main use is in cooking, where its high smoke point makes refined corn oil a valuable frying oil.

Palm Oil
Palm oil is extracted from the pulp of the fruit of the oil palm Elaeis guineensis. Palm oil is semi-solid at room temperatures. Palm oil contains several saturated and unsaturated fats in the forms of glyceryl laurate (0.1%, saturated), myristate (1%, saturated), palmitate (44%, saturated), stearate (5%, saturated), oleate (39%, monounsaturated), linoleate (10%, polyunsaturated), and linolenate (0.3%, polyunsaturated). Palm oil production has been documented as a cause of substantial and often irreversible damage to the natural environment. That is why Olympic are committed to using sustainable Palm Oil and are proud members of the RSPO initiative to promote the growth and use of sustainable oil palm.
